WHITNEY HOUSTON'S ENCOUNTER WITH COPS:
Everyone remembers back in the 90’s when Whitney Houston had a incident with New York’s Port Authority police. This is the backstory: As Whitney’s limo (with her entourage) was pulling out of JFK airport, they were suddenly cut off by five squad cars, each one carrying two police officers. The officers with guns drawn, surrounded the limo and demanded identification. Whitney rolled down her window and told the cop who she was, adding, “My child is in here. Whatever you want, please be careful.” Even though a officer said, “Hey, that really is Whitney Houston!” his partner insisted on Whitney showing her ID as the guns remained trained on the occupants in the car.
They apologized but Whitney was livid. “How could this happen, this is 1993, not 1963.” Her brother added, “The cops saw a limousine full of blacks and automatically figured we were drug dealers or gangsters.” When the truth came out, that’s exactly what the cops thought. They had been staking out a limousine that was allegedly waiting for the head of a drug cartel to arrive at JFK.
When Whitney heard this excuse, she stormed down to the police station and said, “My license plates say Nippy, Inc. for chrissakes, ‘how many fucking drug lords are named Nippy?' She then demanded to see the police report and ripped it in half. Whitney demanded and got a public apology.
Later, according to Whitney’s brother Michael, word on the street indicated that Bobby had been set up, that the cops had been told that drugs would be in the limo. Michael added, “Bobby’s made a few enemies in the past and there’s people looking for him.” A few months later, Whitney’s Bentley (a gift from Warner Bros.) was riddled with bullets, Bobby escaped injury but his bodyguard was killed. I remember when black female superstars in Hollywood were scrambling to play the lead role in the 'Dorothy Dandridge Story.' Dandridge's story was the first acquisition for Whitney Houston's production company, "Houston Productions." Also, Janet Jackson optioned the rights of Dandridge' 1970 biography, "Everything and Nothing." Both ladies got a head start on Halle Berry. When I heard Berry had threw her hat into the ring, I knew Houston and Jackson didn't stand a chance.
Why? Despite Janet Jackson being richer than Halle Berry, Halle is still more powerful than Jackson and Houston combined in Hollywood circles and she has the ability to get a film green lighted through her production company.
Remember, J.Lo and Britney Spears were married a shorter length of time than Berry, despite having prenuptial agreements like Berry, they still had to pay their husbands settlements, unlike Berry, who paid Eric Benet nothing.
As we mentioned before, Berry is the only celebrity involved in an automobile accident yet you have never seen a mug shot of her.
Halle Berry is one of the most determined and focused people I've ever encountered and despite her power and success; she still remains down to earth and low key.
