Sammy Davis, Jr. seemed to get along with rumored racists.  Allegedly, John Wayne who was once rumored to be a member of the “John Birch Society,” who many consider a racist organization.  Wayne allegedly gave Davis the first cowboy hat he ever wore in a film and alleged racist Howard Hughes who once refused to sit down on the chairs previously occupied by the black cast of “Porgy and Bess,” forked over $10,000 for contractors to build a projection room in Davis’ Beverly Hills mansion.  Reportedly, Hughes was so racist-he allegedly had to be restrained by bodyguards because he wanted to angrily confront Arthur Ashe for playing on his hotel tennis court in Las Vegas.
