PATTI AUSTIN & LUTHER VANDROSS:

Singer Patti Austin never solely relied on record sales for income because she had broken into the lucrative world of commercial jingles where she received a flat astronomical fee for recording the ad as well as residual payments each time the ad aired. Where other singers worried about their next gig, Patti’s thoughts ran to the value of her real estate investments and how her business investments were faring.  One day a jingle arranger stopped by to see Patti at the studio and she introduced him to Luther Vandross.  Luther was quickly snapped up and made a fortune throughout the years.  Source: “The Life and Longing Of Luther Vandross” by Craig Seymour.
