FLO BALLARD GETS KICKED OUT OF THE SUPREMES:
Tony Turner reveals in his book, “All That Glittered,” after Flo Ballard was kicked out of the Supremes, he accompanied the new line-up to a gig in Atlantic City. ‘We were staying at the “Seaside Motel.” When we got back from the pier, suddenly we heard Diana Ross screaming, ‘My Wigs! My Wigs! Oh My God My Wigs! Pick up my Wigs! I’ve been Robbed! We all came running, Diana’s standing in the middle of the bed screaming, “I’ve got to get out of this place! Get me another hotel! And somebody says, “Miss Ross, your fur coats have been stolen.”
All hell breaks loose. Diana turns into a wild woman, she jumps off the bed and starts screaming, “Get Gordy.” The police came to take a report, one of the cops says, “Now why would you girls be traveling around in the middle of August with mink coats?” Diana screams, “I’m an international star!” And she gets out her pen and writes down the cop’s badge number. I go back to my room and call Flo.
She says, “Tony, It’s a premonition! God don’t like ugly. I’m not saying anything about that Cindy Birdsong but it serves her right for taking my job. She had no business wearing my dress, honey. What type of woman is going to wear another woman’s dress! After I hung up, I went to check on Mary. When Mary went to the bathroom, I saw a telegram on the bedside table. The telegram read, “Mary, stick with Flo, you might be next-The Tempts.”
Later, when I was talking to Flo, she mentioned that Motown was trying to cheat her, all they wanted to give her was a couple hundred thousand dollars a year for six years. She wondered, what happened to all the blue-chip stocks and investments Motown always said they’d put her money in and where were her gowns? She also mentioned that the Temptations and the Four Tops came by to lend their support.
