Back in the day, Earth, Wind
& Fire leader, Maurice White was considering a funkier sound for EWF.
During this time, Cameo was red hot! Group leader Larry Blackman produced
the majority of Cameo's hits and he had become so successful, he was rolling
in a red Ferrari in the ATL and he resided in a spacious home.
White allegedly contacted Blackman
and tracks were submitted. The tracks were funky and the sound was pure
Cameo but White had a change of heart and declined to use the tracks at the
last minute. Instead, he decided to stay with the EWF formula that had
proved successful.
He had good instincts because
their next album went double platinum and White would purchase a spectacular
compound in Carmel, California-within walking distance of the famous 17-mile
drive.
