CHAKA & WHITNEY:

According to the book, "Luther, The Life and Longing Of Luther Vandross" by Craig Brewer, allegedly, Chaka Khan was known to alienate other vocalists ("B**ch, I never did think you could sing,") she'd say, according to Brewer.  When long time fans and steadfast followers asked her if she remember them, she'll allegedly say, "Hell no, I don't remember you."

Ashford & Simpson wrote a song (Our Love Is In Danger) for Chaka to sing. Luther Vandross, Cissy Houston and Whitney Houston were going to lend their vocals to the background tracks.  Luther had heard about Whitney and was very impressed by her during the session.  Chaka was impressed but according to Brewer, she was reserved in her praise.

Brewer says, Chaka said, "She had a good voice, I saw that, Chaka remembered. "But I didn't detect any real drive.  I think at the time she wanted to be a model and that's where she was putting her cookies."

Luther was way more enthusiastic about Whitney.  He wrote Whitney a note which she keeps to this day.  It said:   "You're going to be one of the greatest singers that ever lived."
