CHAKA KHAN:

Chaka Khan states in her book, "Through The Fire," that one particular blind celebrity (unnamed in her book) was incensed when she married a white man (her first husband).  He had a fit, screaming and reading her the riot act.  One evening, she and her husband were at a club and this same blind celebrity was in attendance with his new white girlfriend.  Khan's husband took the opportunity to whisper to him, maybe you don't realize it, but your date is white-yet you gave us such a hard time about our marriage.  The blind singer didn't see the hypocrisy of his prior statements. He had a "but it's different dating a white woman compared to a black woman dating or marrying a white man," type of attitude.

In Related News: In her book, “Through The Fire,” Chaka Khan reveals that her former husband Richard Holland entered the studio where Rufus member Andre Fisher (drummer, 2nd photo) was listening to a playback of Richard’s song, “Better Days,” which was going to be released on an upcoming Rufus album.  Richard commented on how good things sounded.  He then left the studio to hang out in the ‘Green Room.’ About five minutes later, Andre went down the hall to find him and asked-can I talk to you for a minute?  Richard said sure.

They took their talk into a restroom, once there, Andre sounded off on Richard with something to the effect of, “Don’t you ever tell me what to do!”  He then punched Richard in the head. Richard was helpless to avoid the blows. Andre was 6’5 and weighed roughly 350 pounds; Richard was 5’9 and weighed 140.

Richard’s screams were so loud they registered on the monitor inside the studio. When Chaka got to the bathroom, she went upside Andre’s head with a Courvoisier bottle and Andre turned his attention to Chaka, allegedly, he started hitting her and two roadies had to separate them.  According to Chaka, that wasn’t the first time guys had to pull Andre off her. They had a disagreement at a club and Chaka stood her ground.  She says, ‘Andre literally jumped all over me, despite me being pregnant.’  If the band wasn’t there to pull him off me, I don’t want to think what might have happened.

Richard wanted to sue Andre but our manager talked him out of it because it would have been bad publicity for the group.  Andre was soon out of Rufus and I never spoke to him again.  Sadly, he later married Khan's close friend, Natalie Cole, and it somewhat affected their close friendship. They would later divorce.

Panache Update: During Andre’s marriage to Cole, the tabloids hinted at allegations of domestic abuse.
