AMAZING
GRACE:
John Newton
(pictured above) wrote the gospel hymn "Amazing Grace." Although
this song is one of the most celebrated songs in gospel history, John Newton
was a slave trader.
He wrote
the hymn while he was still involved in the slave trade and he often traded
slaves for a variety of manufactured goods.
Newton
was also a captain on Trans-Atlantic slave ships twice.
He would
die in 1807.
